First Draft Music Video

This is my first draft on my music video for Paramore 'Still into You', starring Blossom Levantiz and Joe Bryant. This music video took 3 days to shoot, including 3 different locations at West Park, Abbie's bedroom and Riley field. The first shoot day was at Abbie's house with just Blossom. I chose to have this as a location in my music video because her bedroom wall is surrounded by photographs, and I thought that this would be perfect for displaying Blossoms obsessive personality and cluttered mind, conveying her character as soon as the video starts. For costume, I organised for Blossom to wear a red tartan skirt, tights and a black vest top, with her hair tied back, as in the other shots it was organised for her to have her hair down, and I didn't want my music video to look the same all the way through, as it would bore my audience. For her make up, it was simply just eyeliner, mascara and red lipstick. The red lipstick was key for representing her personality, as red connotes danger and caution, therefore connoting her as a bit dangerous. She wore this red lipstick all throughout the video, so keep the music video tied together, and so it was a constant reminder of her character. In relation to cinematography, the typical camera shots that were used in this scene were close ups, medium close ups and medium shots. These shots were all specifically chosen to show the audience her feelings, as this music video's narrative is all about showing feelings in order for the narrative to make sense. I am happy with the way that I have filmed these shots apart from one negative, which is that some of the shots from this scene are slightly blurry, and this makes the video look unprofessional. To improve my video, I will be re shooting these scenes again. Another thing that I need to film is the introduction of the music video. I didn't film this because I wasn't too sure if I liked the introduction anymore, as it doesn't really relate to the music video at all. What I will now be shooting is a bunch of pink roses, which will tie in the music video and my album digipak together.

The next location of shooting my video was on Riley field. This shooting only took place for around 20 minutes, because there wasn't much filming that was needed to be done in this location. In relation to mise-en-scene, I organised for Blossom to have a different costume, which was a pink and black floral dungaree, with tights and a white long sleeved shirt. The whole idea of this costume was for the dungaree's to emphasize Blossom as being like a little girl. Also to promote this idea, was the way that Blossom was running and spinning around the field, to show her feelings for Joe. This made her look madly in love with him, which is exactly that I wanted. The white shirt underneath the dungaree's also promotes her child like personality and mind, as the colour white connotes innocence, which is stereotypically what children are viewed as. In relation to cinematography, the camera shots used where medium close up's and medium long shots. The medium close up was used to show feelings, conveying the narrative and the medium long shots were used show the audience the location, and Blossoms actions of her running around the field.

The last location used was at West Park on Walton Street. Blossom and Joe were needed for this shoot. This was the longest time taking shoot that I shot, because it required the most filming, and a lot of re shooting were needed. On this shoot, Blossom wore a black and white polka dot dungaree, again with the white shirt and tights. I wanted her to wear something similar to what she had wore in the previous shoot, to keep her character and dress sense flowing throughout the video. This type of clothing was also purposely organised as it matches the rock pop genre of my music video. Joe wore skinny jeans, with a army camo top and a Parka jacket. Again this was to suit the style of my genre, as I had done research on what type of clothing artists wear from the rock pop genre, and based it on that. When back in the editing suit, I did use a blurring effect edit, which is what I had originally planned to do on my shot list. The shot in which Joe is sat on a bench drinking a cup of coffee is the scene where I wanted to use the effect, to show to the audience that Joe was actually just a figment of Blossom's imagination. One negative about this is that it makes it look like Joe has disappeared because he has broken up with Blossom. In the next shoot of my music video, I will be using as planned the photographs of Blossom that do not include Joe, because this will create my narrative the way I wanted it too. In relation to cinematography, the typical shots used were medium close ups and medium shots. One scene that I am not happy with and need to re shoot again is the scene were Blossom is holding the camera her self. It looks really unsteady and blurry, making it not look as realistic as I wanted it too. I am happy with my music video, but there are many tweaks that I need to make to it, in order to carry out my narrative in the music video successfully.
